I have been an educator for nearly 30 years. After several years in the media industry, I became an educator to empower students to create, innovate and advocate. All of my early experiences as a high school media teacher influenced my educational pedagogy of project-based learning, student voice and choice, career-focused education, real world applications and community connectedness. I have been fortunate to see what students can do when they are challenged and supported to pursue relevant learning, while having a role in how that learning transpires. If we want to truly create opportunities for all students to be engaged, empowered and intellectually enlightened, then we need to trust them and continually question our own practices, systems and expectations.
